Summary
- The introduction of Lord Corlys' illegitimate sons complicated actor Steve Toussaint's view of his character in House of the Dragon.
- Toussaint believes that Rhaenys was still the love of Corlys' life, but explains that Alyn and Addam's mother must have been a special person.
- Alyn and Addam both play important roles in Fire & Blood, and they're set to become crucial characters in House of the Dragon.
House of the Dragon season 2 star Steve Toussaint comments on Lord Corlys Velaryon's infidelity to Rhaenys (Eve Best). The hit Game of Thrones spinoff, which is based on Fire & Blood by George R. R. Martin, returned for its sophom*ore outing last month, continuing the story of the escalating war between the Greens and the Blacks. Lord Corlys, aka the Sea Snake, returns as one of Rhaenyra's (Emma D'Arcy) allies, and House of the Dragon season 2 introduces two of his illegitimate sons into the mix with Alyn (Abubakar Salim) and Addam (Clinton Liberty).
In a recent interview with TVLine, Toussaint addresses Corlys' unfaithfulness to Rhaenys before the events of House of the Dragon season 2. According to the actor, the reveal caught him by surprise, and actually had him questioning the character in a major way. Check out Toussaint's comment below:
To be honest, I’m going to admit that my response was the same as yours when I read the script. Because for a year-and-a-half, promoting the show, I was all about “It’s just her,” and “She’s the one” and so forth. Then I read that, and I was like, “Excuse me?!” [Laughs]
But I still maintain in that, I guess as Eve would say, in that very “mannish” way that his feelings for her are genuine. That she is the one. I am still working through it as to trying to find the reasoning behind it because exactly what you said is what I said…
My thing was, “OK, yeah, one child. OK, great. He’s a sailor, blah, blah, blah. But he then goes back and has another child, so what’s that? … So, I am still trying to find the way through it… Eve and I had long conversations where she would say, “Part of the thing that’s bothering Rhaenys is that this person must have been quite special.” Initially, I was like, “No, no, probably not.” But yeah, I think maybe there was. Maybe we’ll explore that later. I don’t know.
Who Are Alyn & Addam In House Of The Dragon Season 2?
Lord Corlys' Illegitimate Sons Explained
House of the Dragon introduces Alyn and Addam in the early episodes of House of the Dragon season 2, with both characters working for Corlys in his ship-building yard. Over the course of season 2, it becomes clear that Alyn and Addam are Corlys' illegitimate sons, and that this isn't a secret to Rhaenys. Despite this, the bond between Rhaenys and Corlys remains strong right up to the events of House of the Dragon season 2, episode 4, and the Battle at Rook's Rest, which tragically claims Rhaenys' life.
While it's unclear what exactly lies ahead for Corlys in the remainder of season 2, at least one of his illegitimate sons is poised to play a major role. After Jacaerys (Harry Collett) and Rhaenyra hatch a plan to find riders for the unclaimed dragons at Dragonstone, House of the Dragon season 2 episode 6 seemingly confirms that Seasmoke has now chosen Addam as his rider. The episode doesn't explicitly show Addam riding Seasmoke, but the dragon is shown bowing down to him and Rhaenyra is subsequently given a report that Seasmoke and an unknown rider were spotted.

House of the Dragon season 2 has introduced Addam and Alyn of Hull, suggesting that Lord Corlys "owes" them. Here's what we know from the book!
Alyn, on the other hand, as House of the Dragon season 2 has teased, could see a storyline that explores his role as Corlys' successor. The character has thus far been reluctant to embrace his Velaryon heritage, and the dynamic between him and Corlys could become more important as season 2 nears its conclusion. While House of the Dragon hasn't been afraid to stray from Fire & Blood when it comes to Alyn and Addam, the two characters do seem poised to play crucial roles in the episodes to come.
