#neglectedmodernism #cincinnati The appreciation for these more modern background buildings is an important topic in preservation today. They go against the norm of what we typically cherish, but now are begging for our attention. Urbanism benefits from a diversity of building typologies represented over time. They imbue a sense of the history of a place regardless of whether one agrees with the particular aesthetic or not. That’s the richness of #cities. And, of #citybuilding.

Utrecht, the fourth-largest city in the Netherlands, is renowned for its medieval architecture in the city center and picturesque tree-lined canals. However, its transformation over time is evident as we are now busy creating a vast concrete jungle. This change is highlighted in a before-and-after picture posted on Reddit, titled 'Utrecht’s Renaissance: Restoring the Historic Moat and Removing the Old Highway for a Transformed Cityscape. 1980s vs 2020s.' The juxtaposition reveals the city's evolution from its past to the present. #environment #earth #sustainability #life #globalchallenges
