Into the cool water with the E-Foil 🏄Students at the Institute of Jet Propulsion and Turbomachinery (IFAS) at #TUBraunschweig are currently developing an E-Foilboard. In the E-Foil Lab, students can implement their own ideas and test their knowledge in application-oriented research. E-Foiling combines the fundamentals of fluid machines and fluid mechanics with water sports, #Electromobility and #TechnicalInnovation. 🌊 E-foiling involves gliding over the water powered by electricity. The electric propulsion system consists mainly of a turbomachine, the propeller, which drives the board. The foil board itself has one or more hydrofoils attached underneath the board. This combination of electric propulsion and hydrofoils provides high speeds (up to 45 km/h) and considerable buoyancy, allowing the board to float above the water. 🚀Read more:👉 https://lnkd.in/eany36HH📸 Jan Göing/TU Braunschweig#Mobility #Research #Braunschweig #Niedersachsen SE²A - Sustainable and Energy-Efficient Aviation

Hi, where are you testing? I am building efoils now for almost 4y (hobby, not Commercial). I have all sorts of motors, propellers and wings. Would it be possible to get in touch to exchange ideas and have a chat? I live near by and could visit anytime. One little correction to your statement: I just reached a top speed of 52 km/h 😅

Interesting project! You may want to connect with students in naval architecture. There are several universities with student teams developing human powered waterbikes, some are also trying foils. https://foerderacer.com/iwr/

🚀 #JUICE-mission: First-ever lunar-Earth flyby 🌒🌍🛰️ On 14 April 2023, the Jupiter Icy Moons Explorer (JUICE) of the European Space Agency - ESA was launched to explore the largest planet in our solar system and its Icy Moons - Callisto, Ganymede and Europa. #TUBraunschweig is participating in this mission with, among other things, a #magnetometer from the Institute of Geophysics and Extraterrestrial Physics (IGEP).🌌 Numerous fly-by manoeuvres are required to get the spacecraft into the Jupiter system. The first and probably most spectacular of these manoeuvres will take place on 19 and 20 August. First, JUICE will fly past Earth's Moon, initiating an orbit correction manoeuvre that will take it past Earth and back towards Venus. This is a risky challenge that no other space mission has ever faced before. The slightest mistake could take Juice off course. So let's keep our fingers crossed for this manoeuvre! 🤞 Read more:🔗 https://lnkd.in/eCpb-aQH📸 Emmanuel Masongsong (University of California Los Angeles)#Space #SpaceMission #Jupiter #Braunschweig #Niedersachsen

🌍 A look at a million years of #climate history 🌍At 4,718 metres above sea level, Dr Anja Schwarz from the Institute of Geosystems and Bioindication at #TUBraunschweig recently participated in an international drilling project. Together with researchers from China, Germany, the UK, Switzerland, the USA and France, she collected 1,400 metres of sediment samples from Nam Co, the world's highest salt lake on the Tibetan plateau. A maximum drilling depth of over 500 metres was achieved.💪 These sediments can be used to reconstruct the climate history of the last million years - an invaluable contribution to research into climate change, the evolution of #biodiversity and changes in the Earth's magnetic field. 🔬 The samples will now be analysed further. Through their research at Nam Co, the international team hopes to contribute to better predictions of the future climate. 🔋 High-performance #Batteries that can be charged quickly, have a long service life and at the same time guarantee a sufficiently high energy density - this is the aim of the Franco-German #HiPoBat High Power Batteries research project, in which the iPAT - Institute for Particle Technology (Institut für Partikeltechnik) at #TUBraunschweig is involved. The focus is on the development of high-performance solid-state batteries that can reduce the ecological, geopolitical and economic pressure in the field of electrochemical energy storage. 🔌⁉ #EnergyDensity and #PowerDensity are important characteristics of batteries. Energy density indicates how long a battery can be used before it needs to be recharged. Power density, on the other hand, is a measure of how quickly a battery can supply and release energy. A common difficulty is to combine high power density with sufficient energy density - a problem that German and French scientists hope to solve in their joint project.Read more about the research and its application here:👉 https://lnkd.in/egvvqcX9📸 Marisol Glassermann/TU Braunschweig#Energy #MechanicalEngineering #Mobility #SustainabilityForschungszentrum Jülich - IMD-2 MEET Battery Research CenterRWTH Aachen UniversityJustus Liebig University GiessenZentrum für Sonnenenergie- und Wasserstoff-Forschung Baden-Württemberg (ZSW)Université de Picardie Jules Verne (Amiens)LRCS - Laboratoire de Réactivité et Chimie des SolidesCollège de FranceSorbonne UniversityNantes UniversitéUniversité de ToulouseUniversité de Technologie de Compiègne (UTC)

🌱 New ways of #water-efficient #vegetable farming 💧In times of climate change and local water shortages, a farm in the district of Gifhorn in Lower Saxony is showing what innovative solutions can look like: As part of the #HypoWave+ project, vegetables are grown in containers without soil using a nutrient solution in a #hydroponic system. This water-saving method of cultivation is further optimised by using high-quality #recycled #wastewater.🌍 “Hydroponic systems are already efficient in themselves, as they require only small amounts of water,” says HypoWave+ project manager Prof. Thomas Dockhorn from the Institute of Sanitary and Environmental Engineering at #TUBraunschweig . “The HypoWave system’s special feature is to use treated high-quality irrigation water obtained from municipal wastewater, thus completely replacing the use of fresh water. Compared to conventional agricultural irrigation, water resources can therefore be used much more efficiently.”📅 Journalists are invited to visit the living lab on 20 August 2024 and see this pioneering approach for themselves.Read more in our magazine:👉 https://lnkd.in/eR3ttmJbThe project is funded with 2.8 million euros by the Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung. The research consortium under the lead of TU Braunschweig comprises the following project partners ISOE – Institut für sozial-ökologische Forschung, Fraunhofer-Institut für Grenzflächen- und Bioverfahrenstechnik IGB, the Universität Hohenheim (UHOH), Abwasserverband Braunschweig (AVB), Wasserverband Gifhorn (WVGF), IseBauern GmbH & Co.
